[edit] In Vehicle 1 - the Hula mobile:

  1. 1. Les (the destroyer) Noe - loves the uphills
  2. 2. Phil (BARF Master) Delamere - will he be healthy this year?
  3. 3. Melissa (got her degree) Jones - fresh from a cross country drive from New Hampshire
  4. 4. Sue (downhill specialist) Noe - very bummed that she had to choose between down Guanella and down Vail
  5. 5. Loraine (the Grubinator) Gruber - getting faster every day

[edit] In Vehicle 2 - the BARF-alanche

  1. 6. Suzanne (the relay virgin) Swann - is she excited about joining our group?
  2. 7. Maggie (all 7 years) Luck - hoping NOT to see a bear this year - last year was enough excitement for a while
  3. 8. Richard (the Ankle Biter) Luck - hoping to avoid spraining his ankle on Georgia this year
  4. 9. Carl (the Utility Infielder) Zimmer - ready to run whichever legs are still open but confused about the date
  5. 10. Paul (the Sea Monster) Bradley - you're supposed to go to high altitude to train, not San Diego!

[edit] Memories of 2008

We dodged a bullet with the weather - it could have been a lot worse. Van B hardly got a drop. Van A had a little more to contend with on the upper reaches of Guanella.

Trail sections, muddy in parts, but beautiful.

No sprained ankles on Georgia Pass, but Richard arrived with a frozen jaw and hands because he was in too much of a hurry to get those gloves and extra clothes out of his camelback.

Melissa feeling a little green after her run down Vail Pass.

Someone turning the arrow markers on Suzanne's sprint through Glenwood Springs so that everyone got lost and doubling the mileage.

Richard couldn't believe he had to run uphill for another 4.5 miles outside Glenwood. Not a nice treat for those who already ran Georgia!

Carl finally getting to run like he trains - on a steep dirt road with incredible views.

Paul very happy that gravity could take over on leg #30, although the last mile brought him back to reality.

Maggie happy that her stomach was finally back to normal by the third leg.

Carl did NOT get rained on - unbelievable!

Nice toes - runners are always elegant
The lucky van gets breakfast in Georgetown
Is it a shirt or a dress

[edit] Team comments:

Guys I'm starting to think I can actually finish this race. Signed the BARF Master!

The middle leg is still the hardest.

Where's the alibi if you don't train at sea level !!!

What I like about this race is all I have to do is run it -- Maggie has done all the hard work getting it organized -- thanks Maggie !!

What do you mean the race is the 12th. I thought it was the 19th - Carl

Who let the dogs out??? arf arf

Paul relieving the stress of the race
It was beautiful last year

[edit] Memories of the last 7 years:

Started as a random internet team ranging in age from 16 to 45. Three high school kids on our team, and Melissa is still coming out to Colorado, now a college graduate. Anton ran with us for several years - never trained and could just cruise his legs every time. Devin captained us for two years and got his family to volunteer. Captain Kirk was also a long time member - where are you? To all the other past members: Tom, Joyce, Linda, Mary, Heidi, Shirley, Maureen, Christina, Sonya Jo, Lisa, Crystal (who got sick the first year and only made it one leg) the brothers from Cincinatti, another Paul from Boulder and his friend, oh - I'm having trouble thinking of all the names! And thanks to the drivers and volunteers we've had over the years - Melissa's dad, Devin's family, Richard and Kelly, Kirk, Phil - seems to be a recurring theme that you volunteer when you get injured. We must have too many healthy runners this year!

That snowy year we never thought that Devin would get off of Georgia Pass. He must have slid the whole way down. Maggie had the beaver pond crossing that year and it was NOT knee deep. More like crotch deep with ice forming.

Shirley - driving the van as if it were her Porshe from Fairplay to Breckenridge. Whoa girl! And then sprinting the whole way down Vail Pass when she was convinced that there was a bear following her.

Two years ago, the rain put a serious damper on the whole thing. Carl definitely got the worst of it. Rain and snow up Guanella, heavy rain in Frisco, and the only one to get rained on during the night along Hwy 6. The laundramat in Frisco was a busy place that year.

Maggie's phone, ringing with "Richard, the Lion-farted", waking us up from a deep and too short sleep.

Sleeping on the lawn exhausted at No Name when the sprinklers came on. Mary thought it was just another rainstorm and turned over and went back to sleep before we could convince her to move.

Mary taking a wrong turn and heading into Georgetown rather than up Guanella Pass

Paul taking a wrong turn through Glenwood on his way to the rec center.

Spotting Ryan whenever possible.

Loraine and Phil "tagging" other vans with our emblem - you've been barf'ed.

Les sporting a bra stolen from Twenty Peaks.

French fries at McDonald's in Vail: the absolute best late night running food.

Breakfast at the Happy Cooker in Georgetown if you are in the right van.

Carl and Paul asleep in the bed of the Barf-alanche at Eagle High School when it was really cold a few years ago.

Maggie seeing the bear on the bike path in Vail and then Loraine hearing second hand that her teammate had seen a bear. Easy way to set a PR. Couldn't wait to tell Shirley.

Getting cannoodled by Noodles & Company (after Barfing then numerous times, of course ....)

Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - the hot springs......................
